"Glofish"

I went in for guppies for my bf, but ended up buying some red glo fish for myself.
i just recently bought 3, they were EXPENSIVE!! 6 bucks each, and they were fine when I introduced them to my tank, slowly, and alone from the other fish, but by morning, only one was alive. Petco and Petsmart dont sell them here, so I bought them at Petland, which by the way, is a horrible pet store if you ask me. Or maybe, just my encounters (my bf loves the store, thats the only reason I go in). Anyway, I took back the two that died, and before they saw my bag, they (different people) said "are they the glo fish?" and told me to bring a sample water. Like they knew they were gonna die or something? Anyway, I have been working all week, so I havent gotten my two glofish, they wont let me get my money back or exchange for different fish, and I .. well, work.
Anyway, I have had the other one, whom I havent named, for about a week, and it is doing just fine. I need to get a black light bulb, (need, riiiight), but dont knwo where to get it, otherwise, I still think that male guppies would have been pretty... I dont know... I dont have any other danios.. so its all alone, and i think.. depressed..
Also, what else can I feed my danio? (like brand of the food... and everything), because I have been feeding it flakes, and they make the tank sooo dirty. But it is a cute fish... It looks kinda pink

Ugh, Petland. Fear not, they don't all die like that... the pink and orange ones we get at Aquatek seem to be just as hardy as the regular zebra danios, but the yellows and greens are still pretty inbred and the lines are somewhat unstable, so we see a lot of weakness and deformity in those colours. Those are the new colours, I'm sure they'll get better with time.
We had a gentleman come into the store the other day who worked on the Glofish project... my boss asked why they hadn't used coral DNA while pointing out a BRIGHT blue acropora of ours. The gentleman asked if my boss could get him a piece of that coral

FYI
Synirr -you might find this interesting.
Segrest farms was the first to produce glofish, then 5-d tropicals somehow obtained the licenes to be the main breeder supplier. Ive been to both farms personally and I highly recomend 5-d over sergest. Sergest is huge, but its not very well kept compared to 5-d.

How exactly do GloFish® fluorescent zebra fish help in the fight against pollution?
To achieve their goal of helping to fight water pollution, scientists are in the process of adding a "switch" that will cause the always fluorescing GloFish® zebra fish to selectively fluoresce in the presence of environmental toxins. A non-fluorescing fish will signal that the water is safe, while a fluorescing fish will signal trouble. Although these fish are not currently available, scientists hope to complete this work soon. To help further the research, a portion of the proceeds from sales of all GloFish® fluorescent fish goes directly to the lab where these fish were created. For more information on this application, please review the article entitled “Zebra Fish as Pollution Indicators,” by the National University of Singapore on our GloFish® Science page.

Now why can't they make them glow when the water is fine and turn something like puke green if the water goes askew the perfect n00b fish

Bump...
I'm glad to hear these guys aren't dyed they have some at my petco and I about flipped at how weird and dyed they looked.
So they're actually good?
What size tank do they require? Does it say anywhere?
Oh and do you have to keep more than one or 2?

They are cool fish :-)
They are danios, so I would say follow standard danio rules (wouldn't it be fun to mix in a couple zebra and/or leopard danios, too? They are fish that like to school, so ideally a group of at least four to six would be good for keeping them. I believe adult size is about two inches... you can follow the standard one gallon/inch of adult fish rule.

I dunno if I could have a ten gallon, I have like no room D: I could try a 5 gallon if that's not torture to 4 of them :/.
Haha, a ten gallon actually doesn't have much more of a footprint than a five gallon. I am taking a ten and a five gallon into my dorm, and plunked the five inside the ten, it wasn't that much bigger actually. Only a few inches higher and a few inches on either side, and somehow it equals up to bein' ten gallons
