As some of you may know, my dwarf rat Milo was put to sleep a few months ago. Well today was Oliver's turn to join him. They suffered from chronic respiratory problems off and on since they were babies, and it just got to be too much for them at two years old. They were both peacefully put to sleep.

This is kind of a big deal for me. I got these guys two years ago when I couldn't stand to be at school away from home and was suffering from some pretty bad depression. I got these guys to accompany me, give me something to care for, and to provide emotional support while I was away at school. Boy did they do their jobs well! They were always making me laugh, were always there when I needed something to cuddle, always listened and were willing to play and bring joy into a stressful day. This day marks the end of their time with me, 10 days before I graduate from college and move back home. I find it oddly poetic in a way. The last two years have been some of the best in a long time, even though they were really hard, and I know part of that was because of my little furry clowns.

So RIP little guys, you did your job well and helped me make it through the rest of my schooling. I love you and was happy to spoil you.

Hugs to you! There is something about a rat that worms extra deep into the heart. I still remember my childhood rats very sharply (one was even named Oliver! A big black irish boy) I'm so glad you got to enjoy your boys and they got to enjoy you.

Thinking of you today.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I know how that bond feels. I have a cat that I can't stand losing.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Ratties can really grow on you, I know it can be so hard to lose them.
