Most hoods will not accomodate spiral CFLs that are now being used in most standard lighting fixtures. They simply don't have the clearance for it.

This is what my 15w CFLs look like that I put in my tank a while ago that I got at wal-mart.

Yup that's what I meant Susurro. What's your opinion on those lights since you're posting?

Yeah my hood lights are set up for those tube bulbs that have the two prongs on the ends. I'd have to get new hoods if I wanted to try CFLs.

I had a 10 gal hood from walmart and I loved it when I switched to the cfl bulbs. It was amazing, but I don't think it would be that much better than regular fluorescent bulbs like you said you're using now.
