Hi from Massachusetts

After realizing I am totally smitten with bettas, I thought it was time to join the forum. Our last two bettas...Wally, cellophane/marble veiltail, (Walmart rescue who was terribly ill) and Scaly, green crowntail, (Petco rescue, also very ill) were each with us for 6 years. Happy little guys once they were well. I guess they liked their heated, decorated, regular water changes, 5 gallon tanks, bloodworms and hikari pellets (I believe every pet deserves to be treated well)...lol. Wally had the BEST personality...followed us around the room from inside his tank, played "chase" with our finger if we ran it along the outside of the glass, nibbled fingers during water changes... Scaly was our shy boy but would jump for bloodworms.
My son wanted to start a filtered 29 gallon with some neons, danios or the like...but after I took him to several LPS and LFS, he said "mom, why don't they have the same personality as Wally and Scaly?" Well my dear boy...because they are not BETTAS! So...we are getting ready to sanitize the tanks (actually thinking of upgrading to two 10g or a 20 long, possibly with a divider in each so that we can adopt 4 bettas from the icky LPS conditions instead of two). I am afraid though, that we will end up with the 10gs, then fill our two 5g, then fill the two 2.5g hospital tanks if we aren't careful...lol.
If anyone near the 01118 (Springfield, MA) zip code has any rescues they need to rehome, I would be more than happy to adopt but only if I can come pick them up (I don't want the poor guys shipped if they don't have to be).

Bettas are quite intelligent (for a fish), and with intelligence comes personality!
