From what my fahaka-owning friends say, those little boogers grow an inch per month for the first year of their lives or so, so he might outgrow the 10g very very very fast - or get stunted sooner than expected.

Yeah, the 40g ought to be plenty till summer. I was just thinking that the tenner won't last long.

I don't think Synnir asked for any advice...

He's adorable! I never knew puffers could get that big; how big do you expect him to get?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that this forum doesn't let people give advice when it wasn't explicitly requested. I guess I didn't notice because of how it's done all the time around here.

18" is max, though they don't usually get *quite* that big in captivity.

LGP its Sam, I don't think she'd get an animal without doing a bunch of research first, nor would she let the other one get on without it. She isn't like half the fish noobies we get on here that go out and buy a betta and don't do research first. I'm not saying this to hurt or be offensive but I'm just siding with Jeremy.

Back on topic.

Puffers usually scare me cause I have this insane fear of thinking they're aliens that will fly out of the tank and enter my brain and take over. Don't ask me why I just do. But that little guy is just soooooooooooo cute!

OMFG, you got a fahaka on an impulse? JEALOUS. I'd have to plan for months and months and get someone to check my floors to make sure they can support 120g+ and all that. :(

Little teeny puffers that are future giant monsters are so stinkin' cute.

Having been on this forum since it's creation and from reading enough posts, I'm confident that Synirr has an IQ higher than 50, has more common sense in her pinky than Einstein, and has done enough previous research on Fahaka that this wasn't a true impulse purchase.

I'm not trying to attack you, LGP, but you should know by now that Synirr has been around the aquaria block more than a few times.

I don't really think LGP was giving any blatantly unwanted information, just sort of a "just in case she doesn't know" off hand mention.

THANK you, Nelson. I didn't know if Synirr knew exactly how fast a relatively rare fish grew during a particular life stage, and I figured it was worth mentioning, since it surprises even well-prepared people.

ARB, I said called it an impulse buy because there was no preparation; I said she was lucky to be able to do it responsibly, and I was jealous because I don't have all the major equipment lying around to be able to do it myself. I didn't say it was an impulse purchase because she didn't know anything. (ETA) When she said she knew about the growth rate, I didn't say anything else on the subject. WTF? Nobody is above a friendly offer of information, and Synirr didn't act get all crazy-upset, so why is everyone else?

I don't take offense. Husbandry advice is always being offered around here whether it's asked for or not, I've got no reason to think I should be immune. It is good information for others reading the thread to have, even if I find it a little comical to think about Will and I stunting a fish out of sheer neglect and/or ignorance when there's a larger setup in storage, readily available :coverlaff:
