Bought this HM a week or two ago. Some chunk of his fins were missing at the time of purchase and I believe it was due to him biting them. In my opinion I think if well taken care of this guy can be an amazing HM. The photo doesn't really do any justice, his coloring is amazing! His body is dark with a nice yellowish golden streak on his fins follow by blue and black. He has this beautiful tinted purple too!
So far I have not notice any tail biting going on, the shop owner told me he probably bit them from stress while he was bagged and imported from Thailand.

The shop owner coold be right. Keep him in clean warm water and his fins should heal up fairly quickly.

He's a looker! :)

Thats quite the tank, great looking. DOes he have any caves? IS his tank in a high traffic area? Oh and I love him.

No cave at the moment, just a lot of plants and driftwood in his tank (10g). Doing about 30% water changes once a week at 80-85 degree. He owns the entire tank himself. There is a water filter but it's been modified to create very low current.

Give him a few caves, that may work. A nice terracotta pot facing away from the tank front or one of the many decorative caves from the stores should work. He probably just wants a place to hide.
