- 5 gallon tank with old fashioned steel frame (thrift store find by a friend, she left it at my house, mine now! mwahahaha!!)
- little 3g internal filter to keep the water moving
- lighting is a west window that has successfully grown me aquatic plants before - tank is against the window (kitchen counter)
- sheet of glass over the top
I've filled half the tank with water from a cycled tank, and the filter is full of completely cycled sponge that's been in a well established tank for months. I went to the petstore and bought one little bunch of val and one little bunch of wisteria and dumped those in. Then I stopped at the dollar store for some of my fav river stones they sell and tossed those into the bottom. I still need to figure out a fertilizing routine.
I have always sworn by the simple method for any of my exotic pets which has always led to great success (bird, herps, fish, mammals, inverts...) and even the simple method to my big, thriving indoor jungle of houseplants so I'm excited to see if it works here or utterly fails. Let's all sit back and watch! I'll be picking up a few more plants (val and cabomba for sure) later this week.

Sand on thurs and another bit of val....and something else, maybe not the cabomba though. I'm going to yank a couple of young apple snails out of the herd in the coldwater tank and add them in the next few days.
