Mine SEEM to be working ATM so I'm just going to hope that they keep it up until I can get replacements. They're all still very new, the oldest one was purchased some time around January.

I know there was one posted around that time but supposedly it was only for the larger 100w, etc heaters and not the little ones.

Here's the link to a thread with the details of that recall.

I got a letter about the recall on the larger ones, but since I don't have any of the larger ones i just ignored it. Now that it's out for all of them I hate to do it but I'm going to have to replace them. My largest one (a 75w if I remember right) just blew on me and killed 3 of my fish (two female cherry barbs and a female betta). If the recall is only for the stealth heaters is it safe to replace them with their visitherm line? Also are the new Fluval heaters really submersible like the packaging says? I'm confused becuase the package says fully submersible but there's a line on the heater that says max water line and another saying min water line.

Go titanium. Viaaqua 50W is 9" , Finnex 50W HMO or HMA is 6", and the 100W Catalina is 5.5" (the 50W Catalina was the best, but is no longer available ???). Having the controller outside of the tank rather than in it cuts down on leakage, which is whats happening here.

My guess is that you'd have to pay to ship yours to them (if they want them), but it shouldn't cost more than a couple dollars going first class in an envelope. I just picked up an Aqueon Pro heater (the plastic kind) at Petco and I like that it has a pilot light on it that tells you when it's heating and when it's at temp. DEFINITELY like that. I disliked never being able to tell if my Stealth was on! I'll probably just end up having them send me a check.

Ugh I don't know what I'm going to do. I have a 250w running in Oz's 55 gallon, and I picked that heater because of its strength. Oz likes to destroy things, and is really hard on all his tank equipment. I would take a replacement, but the problem is - they'd have to send it to me first, and I'm betting they won't. I don't have the cash to go out and buy something for the interim while I've sent off the old one and am waiting on a new one. Guess I'll have to take a check and buy a new one.... and hope nothing happens in the time it takes for the check to arrive (I'm guessing a long time... there are gonna be a ton of claims). Are the ones out at Petsmart now, safe? Or does anyone know of another really strong heater that can be banged around without the risk of breaking?

This is just not what I needed right now. But thanks to those who informed me in chat.

I just realized, I keep my heater upright with the top and knob sticking out of the water (not completely submerged). Is the problem when water gets inside of it?

Julie, this is the one I just got in 100W and it's honestly the same as my Stealth.

Also, here's my guess about the recall. They KNOW people can't just go run out and buy other heaters, so I'm wondering if they're going to take a credit card number after they send you a new one and if you don't send it back, then they charge you for the replacement. That's what a lot of places do for stuff they know you can't stop using.
