I purchased him/her at walmart a couple of weeks ago. Her cup said female veil on it, but she's been making bubble nests and has better finnage then the other girl i bought with her. Now I'm super confused whether she is a girl or boy because she is flaring to the other female I have, and the other female is responding with vertical stripes! Help! I have no clue what she is because she's not a juvenile male, and our walmart doesn't carry plakats. Any ideas?

Indeed, those ventral fins look too long for a female.

yep, male PK. i actually got my former PK boy at walmart marked as a female too. if you have a wally world that frequently gets females, they get PK boys (and even some PK girls too) in almost every shipment.

Thanks for the help! It definitely explains why he wouldn't mate with any of my other bettas! Its so wierd because he shows strong stripes, both horizontal and vertical, and looks just like the other female I purchased at the same time (and I know its a female because she just bred with a male). I wonder if i should tell walmart they have plakat males, the lady at the fish counter said she had not been successful breeding any of the bettas lol!

Must be a male, if "she" is making a bubble nest. Looks like a plakat. Does she have a white ovipositor on the belly? That is a good indication she is a she.

I had the same issue last month, with my boy Hermes. !00pct male plakat. He is the first male plakat i've ever seen in person. We only get VTs here. XD I think that they are probably late bloomers or the result of an early cull. Yours is definitely a boy.
