Just wanted to know exactly what tail type this fish is? Is it excaliber like aquastar71 says or like spade tail? Was just curious as to the correct naming of it.

There isn't a tail type that describes this fish. This is why I don't usually buy from this seller. He tends to try and sell defects as some sort of "hot new betta".

So this means the shape of its tail is a defect?

Yes, a normal spade tail has a tail in a similar shape, but more spade-like with not such a pronounced. . ..point. lol

I have had fish get this before. They were bit by a sibling and the rays just grew back extra long. I don't even know if this tendency would pass down to fry.

hmm that's interesting. Yes I did think that spade was a type of tail I see what you mean that at the point it overlaps.
