I put a plakat (naughty girl) in with sol my 3.5 inch female. They have similar color, and the plakat has attitude; although, flight and hide behavior was in control. Maybe, similar gene pools tempered Sol. The size difference made it prudent to remove the plakat. Then I tried another, Sol had little tolerance for the crown tail, and she was in full flight mode. I have fed live minnows to sol and nemisis, the male king to the tail and lateral fins off the prey before moving in to eat it, and Sol just bit one until she could swallow it and bite it in half. I have seen these two fish in action. There was some intraspecific behavior with Sol and naughty girl. Less with Sol and Merky. The smaller bettas were unwilling to attempt to compete for dominance, and that could trigger a predator - prey response. I am unwilling trust the large in with the small.
