Soo.... about 2-2.5", a little faded right now from stress. Sorry about the sucky image quality, but... ID please? Was in a ziplock in the trash at Walmart and I need to figure out what he is so I can care for him until a home is found. Thankies!

Heh, if I was going to make something up, I'd probably choose a much more believable story. So yeah, seriously. It was in the garbage in the fish dept along with all of the various dead fish... possibly a customer return or something?

Oh my god. D: Glad you were around to save him! Definitely a type of African cichlid, but that doesn't really help at all. I could swear I've seen a very similar fish at my work... but I don't recall the name. :C Sorry!

Kind of looks like P. elongatus in some pics... I think you're right in thinking it's a pseudotropheus species for sure. Hopefully someone will pop in soon.

Looks like a stressed out Pseudotropheus Zebra. Elongatus are thinner and longer, but have very similar coloring.

Aha, yeah, knew it looked close. I was kind of thinking zebra, too, but I definitely see it now!

Now you are making me doubt.

Other than the P. Zebra, it could be Labidochromis Hongi and I still could be wrong. Mbunas are so similar sometimes it is hard to tell.

I'm pretty sure Walmart's selection is marked Pseudotropheus species. Could be a mix?

I need to get another photo now that he's more colored up; folks on the cichlid forum aren't 100% sure either. It'll be easier to tell when he's feeling better, I think.

With africans, getting a definitive ID is going to be troublesome. He's a lucky little fella that you happened across him.
