I don't know much about double tails. But this betta caught my eye. I wish I had room for him I would have took him. $3 he was with all the VTs. He had some character to him. He seemed very aggressive which to me would be a good sign he is healthy. He had a lot of flare. So is he a Double Tail or just a different looking VT?Posted Image

He's a very pretty VT. He doesn't have the wide-based dorsal that is characteristic of a DT. His caudal fin isn't truly split in two, but looks like it was torn at some point. It looks like there's already a bit of regrowth coming in. :)

You already have your answer, but, yeah, not a true double-tail. The dorsal fin will mirror (or come close to) the width of the anal fin... the genetics that give it a double tail cause the fish to basically be a mirror image of itself, fin wise. The caudal fin isn't ALWAYS split all the way to the base of the body, but if it isn't, that's a good reason to start doubting his double-tail-ness.

Yeah I seen a pic on another topic and saw some differences. I really like this fish though. I am going back to that store tomorrow. If he is still there I am probably gonna buy him. It standed out so much beside physical characteristics. He had spunk.lol. well thanks for clearing that up.

I do have a true double-tail, and I bought him for his attitude! He's a funny fish, but he's a wimp and my tetras boss him around, haha.

Maybe yours heard about how awesome double-tails are and he's trying to convert!

He's not my fish yet. But it amazes me how they all have a different personality. I have three VTs already. Two males and a female. And they all have diffences they make them unique.
