Pic of my maingano tank, also has 8 juvenille BN and 3-4 feeder fish in it

I've finally got around to putting a black background on the tank, so i snapped a pic.

Tank looks REALLY good! Are the feeders for the Maingano? (probably not the best idea...)

The feeders are just living in there, they are firetail gudgeon (sold as feeder fish), and too large for the maingano to eat anyway. So they are now a dither fish i spose.

Why is it not a good idea for them to be in there?

Dithers are fine, fine. :D

Just, if your maingano decide that they look like a 'good idea' to eat, their stomachs may not agree with their heads. Mbuna typically do not handle high protein diets, well.

Ahh ok. Interesting. I'm pretty sure the pellets i feed all my fish are high protein, i've not had any probs with them eating them. I must have a look at the packaging next time i buy some.

I usually use veggie pellets and veggie flakes for mbuna.

Very nice layout indeed

I wouldn't feed any fish feeders as they are not that great nutritionally and the risk of disease is high as LFS and exporters don't look after them as they are a cheap commodity.

Also I believe that fish fed feeders tend to be more aggressive and that's best avoided in a aquarium setup

Beautiful tank! Looks really nice. I love a plain black background. Nice work!
