Fish disease treatments are drug-specific. I see many of you... even some of the experienced people in here just throwing treatments out there for diseases.

If.... and I say if, you do not know how to diagnose the disease, or you are guessing at it, please PM me or call me on the phone. That's why I came to this forum.

Disease diagnosis is not simple, by any means. I have had aquariums since 1969 and have been studying Fish Pathology for 25 years now. Unless you treat with the right chemical or antibiotic... you are just spinning you wheels and wasting valuable time.

Betta Momma started Emailing me around a year ago with disease questions posted in this forum. I started to see many interesting things that the Betta fish were coming down with, and felt a need to join and give some advise. I am not here to sell anything, but donating my time to help you folks out there and educate you a bit on the many pathogens that plague our tropical fish hobby. If you will notice also, many times I will recommend a product that our competitors are selling out there in the pet stores, rather than sending you to my site to buy medications. I provide a free service, and I think that our consultive services are the best in the industry bar none.

So, don't be shy, send me your questions and I will answer them as soon as possible. I deal with all of the fish in the industry including: African Cichlids, Discus, South American, Asian, Marine, Koi & Goldfish, Betta's and whatever else you could ever think of. I am usually very busy on the phone with some of the larger Importers/Exporters, Zoo's, Public Aquariums, Breeders, Etc. I will do my best to help you with what time I have.

Thanks Brian. I wish I had met you earlier in the year. I lost a very special Gold Saum to some mystery ailment and no matter what was suggested, what I tried, nothing made things better and he's gone now. How invaluable to someone would help like yours be in a similar situation? Thank you for giving us your time and expertise.

You guys are great, and thank you for making me part of the "fish family" here. I enjoy doing this when I have time, and am glad to help.

Go check out the new disease chart I put up in the disease forum!

ok so I just bought a Crowntail Betta yesterday. I followed all directions carefully and he is now in his tank. However, throughout the course of the day I noticed something long and light tan colored hanging from right under his right fin. it had a little ball on it but my betta shook it off. now there is just this string the little ball hung from. at first i though it was just poop, but im not so sure! any one know what this is?

I don't think Brian frequents the forums here anymore. You would be best off starting a new topic in the disease forum. That way, all of our wonderful disease experts will see it! smile1.gif

*bump*

Random, indiscriminate use of whatever you have on hand is a really bad idea. Everyone understands the frantic urge to do something immediately when a fish is sick, but the wrong medication isn't going to help your fish, and can even do serious harm. The right medication for the right illness is critical for your fish's health, so please don't just start mixing up a medication cocktail and dose with everything you have.
