oooo CONGRATS. hey when they do that whole process of courtship. would i have enough time to take pics? or do u have to be fast
Can take anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours or more....all depends on how many eggs the female has and how good at "their job" they are. :P

hmm.. i can't remember where i read it.. it said something like males breeding constantly get ______ and shortens their lifespan. Didn't explain what it was though. Here's something a bout a buck type female on bettysplendens:
http://www.bettysple...p?articleid=809
"Of further interest, Derrick reports that sometimes you get what he calls a 'buck type' female (because she keeps returning to 'buck' the male - LOL) who will return to the nest site every few days to continue to spawn with the male. In these females, it seems the ovaries continually produce eggs and the abdomen of the female fills rapidly after each spawning session. With this kind of female, he doesn't remove her after spawning, but let's her stay in and spawn with the male several times. The downside? He says that this type of female will usually die after spawning a few times, whether she is removed from the tank or not. He says his record number of continuous spawns from the same pair was seven in three weeks! By the time they hit 4 or 5 spawns, the younger fry usually end up being eaten by the first batches of fry but (amazingly!) not by either parent."

Looks to me that the article only talked about the females over active ovaries... :dunno: That makes sense...although sad, makes sense.
yah, that's the only thing i found that was remotely similar. i dunno where i read it before, coulda remembered wrong. it had a word. some kinda disease they get when the fish are bred too many times and it shortens their lifespans. they could also have been talking about something totally different though, or it might have been unfounded because i remember looking for an elaboration on the topic and couldn't find it.
