Names: Common-Mono Sebae, Mono, African Moony: Scientific-Monodactylus sebae
Area of origin: West Africa
Min/Max Tank Size: 50gallons
Suggested Care Level: Moderate
Water conditions: pH-7.5-8.5, Temp-76-82*F, SG-1.005-1.025
Diet: Omnivore, but needs some plant matter
Temperment: Semi-aggressive, will develope a pecking order and will sometimes be territorial
Suggested tank mates: other brackish fish
Breeding: Rarely done in the aquaria, sexing fish is not possible with the naked eye

Personal observations, Advice:

These are some very interesting fish. Altho they only grow to about 8" long whey can reach a foot or more in height. As alot of brackish fish they are sold as FW and at a small size they can tollerate that but as they grow they have an increasing need for salinity. They are best kept in groups of 3 or more as they need to be with their own kind, but often develope a pecking order amongst themselves. They can be a finiky fish to feed and prefer frozen foods to dried ones. They also need clean water and a fair amount of current to the tank.
